Ziziphus obtusifolia, or Graythorn, is a drought tolerant native shrub growing in mesquite and oak woodland and desertscrub habitats from 1000-5000 ft. It is a dynamite plant for wildlife as it provides dense nesting habitat favored by native birds, produces yellow flowers that are loved by bees, hummingbirds, moths, and other pollinators, and provides fruit for birds and other wildlife. The fruit take a year to mature when fully formed. Plant in full sun, tolerates a variety of soil types.
