Opuntia ficus-indica, or Prickly Pear, is a perennial succulent found all over the SW US and Mexico. This edible variety is partially domesticated and selected for low spines. Found at 500-5000 ft in elevation. Produces orange flowers bloom April-June. Plant in poor soils in full sun,very low water use.
