Join us for an informative class to learn about all things related to running and managing a native plant nursery, including propagating native plants from both seeds and cuttings, including seed and plant sourcing, plant lists, dormancy, mechanical scarification, temperature stratification, transplanting, pot sizes for retail vs. restoration needs, irrigation, soil type, timelines, and more.

Limit of 15 participants

Native seed collection workshop

BRN Seed Barn

October 17: 9 AM - 3 PM

​​​​

Join us for a tour of the BRN Seed Lab to learn about our operations and programs, then head out to the beautiful San Rafael Valley to learn about native grasses and our ethical seed collection protocols.

 

Participants will help collect seeds that will be used in a local ecological restoration project to mitigate erosion and revegetate the landscape to support healthy habitats.

 

Participants should bring water and snacks, wear sun protective gear, long pants, and sturdy shoes for walking across uneven terrain, and be comfortable hiking short distances. Seed collection equipment, snake gaiters, and blaze orange safety vests will be provided.
