Erythrina flabelliformis, or Coralbean, is a small native tree that has bright red tubular flowers that are a favorite of hummingirds. This plant's flowers bloom in the early spring throught the summer, starting before the rounded triangular leaves emerge. Although this plant is a tree and can be up to 15 ft tall in parts of its range, it is more shrubby in the dry conditions of southern Arizona where it tends to only grow up to 8 ft tall. It is found on rocky slopes above canyons and in desert washes at 3000-5500 ft.
