Acourtia thurberi, or Thurber's Desert Peony, is a large perennial forb that can grow to be 5 feet tall, and has many branches and fragrant, nectar-rich pink or purple flower clusters with 8-12 florets each that bloom June-October.  This shrub is found between 4,000 and 6,000 ft and likes soils with gravel, caliche, or sandy loam composition.
