Fraxinus velutina, or Velvet Ash, is a riparian tree with exceptional drought tolerance that can reach 25 or more feet in height. It is often seen in association with black walnut, elderberry, cottonwood, and sycamore trees. It is a winter deciduous tree that flowers in spring and fruits in the fall. It has become a popular ornamental tree in recent years as it grows quickly and can provide good shade for a house or yard.
