The Sierra Madre Lobelia, or Lobelia laxiflora, is a sprawling perennial bush that is native to Mexico and Central America but grows in a few canyons in southern Airzona at the northern end of its range. This plant is found in rocky canyon bottoms between 1,000-4,500 ft elevation, growing in partial shade in well-draining soils that accumulate seasonal moisture. It is a quick growing plant that spreads via rhizomes and can reach widths of 4-6 ft and can grow 2-3 ft tall. It produces an abundance of tubular, orange-red flowers in the late spring and summer that feed a variety of pollinators. Plant in part shade, with well draining soils, and protect from temperatures below freezing in the winter months. No shipping.
