Lophocereus schottii, also known as Senita, is a columnar cactus with erect stems that branch basally. Stems are green to gray-green with waxy chevrons, flowers are nocturnal, tubular and have a pink-orange center. Spines appear shaggy on upper stems with age, which gives it the other common name of old man cactus.
 
Found in the warmest parts of the Sonoran Desert in Arizona, then south to Sinaloa, and south on the Baja California. Grows in flats along washes and on low hills, preferring sandy, lava, or granitic substrates from 1,000-2,000 ft, flowers March-September.
