Phaseolus acutifolius, or Wild Tepary Bean, is a native annual vine that is the wild predecessor of cultivated tepary beans. This lovely climbing vine is found on rocky slopes and in canyons growing over shrubs between 3,000-6,000 ft. The plant produces small pink flowers from August-October that are followed by delicate bean pods. This is a beautiful species to grow on a trellace for shade, and it is also an important food plant for the Motezuma Quail! These seeds can be grown in partial to full sun in well-draining soils with medium water requirements.
